A fascinating map diagram created in 1888 illustrates a contrast between Plymouth and Jamestown - two of the earliest influential colonies on the American continent. Plymouth's foundation is shown as the Bible from which a tree of liberty grows across the United States. Jamestown's foundation is shown as a Mammon postmark from which a tree of slavery grows across the southern states. With a variety of symbolic features, this map is truly intriguing to study. The map also includes some commentary underneath that is an entertaining example of nineteenth century propaganda.
